About Bruce C Maag
Introduction
Not everyone is born with a strong desire to commit their lives to helping others around them, but Mr. Bruce C. Maag is one of those exceptional people. Throughout his nearly 40-year career, Mr. Maag has personally, and through the agencies he founded, has served thousands of individuals, youth, and their families. Bruce C. Maag first began working in residential hospital settings. Two were with the Ohio Youth Commission in the 1970’s, one was as a Psychologist at the former Lima State Hospital, and two were psychiatric units.
Early Employment
While working under the auspices of the Allen County Juvenile Court, Maag began the Allen County Youth Services Bureau and was its Executive Director from 1974 until 1978. This was Allen County’s first street outreach and prevention program for youth. Mr. Bruce C. Maag has been involved in Treatment Foster Care for over 30 years, beginning with the Ohio Youth Advocate Program in 1978 as its COO. This was one of the first TFC programs in America. In 1984, he established Specialized Alternatives for Families and Youth (SAFY) and was its CEO for 16 years. In December of 1999, Mr. Maag chose to resign to be with his wife, who was fighting Leukemia.
Current Career
After the unfortunate passing of Mr. Maag’s wife, Bruce realized he needed to move on and continue doing the work to which he had devoted his life. In July 2000, he formed the International Phoenix Group and Phoenix Homes, and he has been the CEO ever since.
